Thoughts on the Inauguration

We had the tv on a good bit on Tuesday as the Inauguration was going on. As Abby was watching for a moment I said to her something along the lines of what a special day it is because of President Obama being our first African American president. Ya know, the first president with black skin. Abby says, "Oh I know, just like Cleo." (our black cat) :)

Later in the week Abby asked me when John McCain would get to be president. I told her that he would probably never be president (I did not go into the fact that he is ancient or that the Republican party sure hopes to have more of a rock star next time). I reminded her how everyone voted and Barack Obama got more votes so he gets the job. She then went on to tell me that her brother and sister voted for McCain. This would be her pretend brother and sister that she talks about quite often. She also says they live in Canada now. Hummmmm.... they voted for McCain. They now live in Canada. It is all making sense now.

Burrito Night

It was naked burrito night a few days ago and we let A take our order and then put each dish together. She quickly lost interest in the taking of orders but loved the actual cooking.

It was funny how stingy she was with the cheese and sour cream on mine and Adam's order but when it came to hers she went all out. I am thinking this would be fun to do with ice cream Sunday's sometime.

JOY!

"My wish came true," said Abby this morning when she looked out the window. We awoke to about 3 inches of snow. Just enough to close schools and businesses. Just enough to make a wish come true.

Yoga

Abby and I spent the morning doing a little yoga recently. I got this book from Barefoot and it is a great introduction to simple yoga poses.

This little cutie is much more flexible than her momma. :)

what we have been up to (in pictures)

Abby: enjoying her new Christmas presents.

Daddyo: building a new roof for Abby's swing set. The tarp that came with it had ripped and was falling off.

Mommy: making felt food for Abby's kitchen. Here we have a well balanced breakfast of pancakes, fried eggs, bacon and doughnuts.

For lunch we have bow tie pasta, sugar snap peas, orange and lemon slices and chocolate chip cookies.

What have you been up to?

Do you know the Muffin Man?

I do. I sleep with him every night and then send him on his merry way in the morning. Ha! Adam made these muffins for us last week and they were delicious and healthy. You can find the recipe here. This picture does not do them justice but trust me, they are great.

The Dreaded New Year's Resolutions

Making resolutions is something that gives me stress. I feel like I need to have hammered out exactly what my goals are on January 1st but I am so tired from all the Christmas festivities that by the time the 1st rolls around I already feel behind. I then start to think about skipping the whole process. But no, I want to continue to grow and better myself and picking out a few things I want to work on is a good way of doing that. So for the past few days I have debated doing a post about this. After all, if I tell YOU what my goals are you might check up on me. :)

Anyway, here is what I have thought of so far:

Read the bible this year (see my reading goals post for more on this)

Play with Abby more and let her direct our play. (I may be guilty of trying to push my interest on her)

Exercise at least 3 times a week.

Try at least 2 new recipes a month.

Make a birthday banner for us to use each year. (I plan to start that this week)

Overcome my fear of my sewing machine.

Improve my Scrabble game.

Cut myself some slack in the motherhood arena. I will continue to make mistakes but I mix some really good moments in each day also.

Look for more ways to make Adam's life easier cause he sure does do this for me.

Help our family live a more green lifestyle.

Find ways to cut down on our monthly expenses.

Enough about me. Did you make any resolutions this year?
